I love watching these large birds that usually gather in one big group in close proximity and they don’t care how inconvenient it maybe for others.
They yawn, preen and doze and feel so comfortable with each other.

March is the first month when the Bear River MBR welcomes returning birds including American Pelicans.
Generally, life is good.
The world of birds is a very dynamic, filled with action, splendor and drama. Freeze any one moment in time and the birds’ behavior can become hilarious.
What was one of pelicans thinking? Was he trying to squeeze between two pelicans or something else?

There is a wide open area in the Bear River MBR where American White Pelicans prefer to congregate in one big group to “socialize” with each other.
Their social life may last for a long time but eventually some Pelicans will get bored and go fishing or fly east or north to their favorite places.
I always hope the pelicans will fly east and pass me by, and if it happens I consider myself lucky.
Juvenile pelicans are amazing, they are full of unrestrained energy, they often want to be noticed and appreciated. They like to make a favorable impression on their peers.
